Hello everyone. Those who have followed my blog for past year, know the story of little Charlotte. Today I would like to share with you her first birthday party and little snippets from her first year. Her mum wrote a little message as well. It is really emotional so get your tissues ready.
Throughout the year I visited Charlotte few times. It was very emotional to see her first time. Such a tiny baby, but so strong in spirit. It was amazing to see how she grows and every time when I saw her she was getting more and more active. I think she had such a great year. So much love from family and relatives.
Here is little message from Charlottes family.
” A year ago, we were prepared for the worst. We were told that our daughter might not survive her early arrival. At the time I felt fully prepared but looking back I was just in complete and utter shock. I had never heard of anyone having such an early baby before. After being told the statistics and that she might not survive, all sorts of thoughts were in my head. I was supposed to be preparing for a happy time but instead we were thinking about a possible funeral. Charlotte was born fighting for her life, defeating the odds she was given and most importantly, she took a breath!! Charlotte was the tiniest human I had ever seen. She weighed only 1lb 4oz. For the next 15 weeks we spent every single day by her incubator or cot in Simpsons NICU. Every day was a step towards going home.
At first we wouldn’t talk about going home as we never knew what would happen. Charlotte was treated for jaundice, battled meningitis on Christmas Day and septicaemia twice. With four blood transfusions and two lumber punctures to go along with it. I have lost count of how many times she needed resuscitation. Although none of this seemed to bother her, as she never knew any different. I didn’t get to hold her until she was 3 weeks old and Keith get his first cuddle until she was a month old. Now our girl is one year old. She has shown us how to fight, how to be patient and how to be very grateful for what we’ve got. Every single day I look at her in complete amazement that she is even alive. Charlotte had grown to be a loving, happy little girl, who takes everything in her stride.
Without the support of our friends, families and Simpsons special care staff in our darkest hours, I don’t know where we would be. Keith and I made friends in the most unlikeliest of places with other parents going through or who have been through the same thing.
A special thank you to my two friends who cancelled their night out just to sit with me in the labour ward. I will forever be grateful for the normality you brought to me that day. Although now I know you both went home in tears, thank you for being strong for us.”
Thank you all for supporting Charlotte and her family trough this hard period.
I will show you a little snippets during her first year. You are most welcome to visit each individual story to see more images.
First we met at Simpsons NICU. I think this was one of the most hardest times for family, but at the same time I saw so much love, care and happiness. Big thanks all the staff at Simpsons for looking after baby Charlotte.
At the time I also made a little video about her time at the special care unit.

After spending 106 days at the special care, finally Charlotte was ready to go home. I visited her just after she arrived home. I was really happy to see her again.
We made a little baby film again. I think it just shows how much she has grown and developed.

During the Easter time she visited me for a proper newborn photo session. It was lots of fun and she even made it in Sunday Post newspaper.
Real beauty, just loved this rabbit themed session 🙂
I was doing a little project and wanted to spend a little longer time with Charlotte so we decided to have like half day with her and I did little baby documentary story about her days activities. Really loved to see family as they are.
We had a little research visit, drive with car, daddy feeding her and lots of cuddle photos. I was amazed to see how much she has changed since I saw her last time.

And just before Christmas time I went to document her close family birthday party. It was lots of fun and Charlotte really enjoyed being around her closest friends. I saw so much love from relatives and so much happiness. Happy birthday Charlotte!
We have made a little video story on how birthday went. Enjoy it.
