What To Expect From Pregnancy Photo Shoot
– Confidence in understanding how to use light to achieve flattering maternity photos will give you boost in confidence and guarantee tasteful portraits.
– “Armands was so professional and easy to work with that I very quickly forgot about any worries.” That’s what you will hear even from most shy mums. It doesn’t have to boring, stiffy photo session, let’s have a giggle and enjoy it.
– Would you like session outdoors or indoors? You will definitely have a choice so you can have either more privacy portraits at the studio or go outdoors and have more candid portraits. Of course last one would be weather permitting.
– 6 years of photographing maternity portraits have given me confidence in posing women beautifully. All little elements come together to create for you flattering and tasteful pregnancy photos. It might feel a bit tricky at times, but trust me, it will look awesome.
– Selection of specialty maternity gowns, fabrics and few props will add that little extra touch to make your portraits even more beautiful.
– Bring your partner. I always hear boys saying that they don’t want to be part of this. Trust a professional photographer you do. “It was also a lovely touch that he put my husband to good use as an assistant, arranging the materials and my hair as needed (guided by Armands). We both thought it was a really good way for him to feel involved (as by definition most of the photos were focused on me). We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the shoot!”
I fail to find the right words to describe the professionalism of Armand during my maternity session. As any other expecting mum I was apprehensive about my size. I was not really keen on posing in the size I was, so I gave up on the idea of maternity pics and concentrated on looking for a photographer for my newborn baby boy. I came across Armands work and fell in love with his maternity pictures, and decided to meet up with him. The meeting with Armand re assured me I have picked the right photographer for the job. He advised me on the best value for money package, how the session will go and we’ve scheduled a date. I found myself astonished with the artwork he created for us. He managed to capture the happiness that I had growing inside me, the love between me and my partner and the mother I have grown into. I would highly recommend Armand to anyone looking for a photographer with personal touch and creative mind.Looking forward to get my newborn photo session with him again !!!!
Pregnancy Photography FAQ
When to book a pregnancy photo session
Booking your maternity session can be personal preference. But expectant moms-to-be seem to be most comfortable booking in between 32-36 weeks (8-9 months). These sessions are wonderful family events as well, so it only makes sense that dad and siblings will help tell your story in pictures.
Where do you take maternity portraits
Where to take your portraits is all up to you. Mainly maternity photos are taken at my Edinburgh photo studio, but it can be done at your home too. Do you have a favourite park? An affinity for the beach? The idea is to choose a place that is most comfortable for you.
Can I bring partner and siblings for the photo session.
I love for the dads to get involved as well—don’t be shy guys! This is the beginning of your family’s journey, so it’s great to get everyone—including brothers, sisters, or the family pet, involved. Very often dads are here to help mums with hair, little prop adjustments etc. It is more fun experience and dads are great reassurance support for new mums.
Do you have props.
You will have access to all my lovely maternity gowns. I have various head pieces and fabrics available to complement images. Before the actual photo session I will give you a little shopping list too. I will explain why you will need any of these pieces. It also depends what type of session are you planning to do.
Do you enhance photos
Every photo I deliver to you will be enhanced to certain level. Depends how is skin looking and if you have stretch marks or not. I don’t go crazy with enhancements, but sometimes its needed to gain better overall feel of the image. All images you will see during your ordering session will be professionally prepared for you.
What to do with maternity photos.
Maternity images are very personal. Most likely you don’t want to share them with whole world. That is why I have few maternity orientated products in my studio. You can choose a nice image box, small heirloom albums, trifold, or you can make nice piece of wall art. Also if you come for a newborn photography session, you could potentially combine these two photo sessions in one product. I would love to guide you trough this process so you can choose the best options for you.
We met with Armands prior to the shoot to discuss what we wanted, and we were instantly put at ease with his friendly nature and enthusiasm. I was a little unsure what to expect with showing off my bump. However, Armands was so professional and easy to work with that I soon forgot about any worries. It was also a lovely touch that he put my husband to good use as an assistant, arranging the materials and my hair as needed. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the shoot! We have just been to see the final images, and they are truly stunning. I was amazed it was actually me in them! We will treasure them as a wonderful way to look back on what has been such a special time for us.
I Don’t Look Great…
Hard truth: Sometimes it can be hard for mums-to-be to feel great during their pregnancies. You feel huge, tired, and have swollen feet. It can be an emotional rollercoaster. So it can be easy to lose sight of how truly beautiful you look.
That is one of the reasons I love doing maternity photography so much! I love playing with light and shape during the maternity sessions. My goal is to create photos that will make the mum-to-be feel beautiful, elegant, and radiant. I can organise for you hair and make up artist and make this as a little pampering session as well.
Use of light and shade within his photos really appealed to me. After sending my initial enquiry Armands invited us to his studio to discuss what we were looking for and to explain how the actual photoshoot would work. He was very helpful in telling me exactly what clothes we would require to produce the best pictures and answering any questions we had. On the day of the photoshoot we were both a little apprehensive but Armands made us both feel comfortable very quickly after our arrival. We have just been back to see the finished photos and choose our package and we both loved the images he had captured. He will definitely be seeing us again.
Birth photography that is beautiful, intimate, and non-invasive
Those who say that wedding photography is very emotional definitely haven’t photographed birth of a child. I’m a dad of two and will remember forever how it was to stand by, nervous, tired, and helpless. The birth of a child is just… WOW. Emotions are everywhere. I love documenting the process and connection between mums and dads. When you get to see a baby who is just few seconds new, hear that first cry and that’s it, the emotional floodgates just burst. You may go in strong and stoic, but you leave an emotional puddle of joy. It is just simply amazing. So many happy tears. As a photographer, I can definitely say that it is very special privilege to be part of such a special event.
