Not sure about heading to a professional studio and getting a set of maternity portraits done? Whatever your reasons, whether they be worries about your budget, that you don’t feel well or you’re unsure about being photographed, you’re right to consider them. To create beautiful maternity portraits in a studio, a photographer has to have a very good understanding of lighting, poses and editing.

Today we will talk about how to take maternity photos at home. A little DIY project for you. Possibly discuss pregnancy photo shoot ideas with husband. Get him involved. 

The idea of sharing tips for creating simple DIY maternity portraits has been lingering on my mind for the past year or so. Finally, along with undertaking another big maternity project, I decided that it’s the perfect time to release this material. You will find some finished images with set-up diagrams to help you to replicate them. These should give you a good sense of where the photographer (your partner) should be and the setting we used.

Hello everyone. I’m catching up with all my lovely summer work and today wanted to share a nice artistic pregnancy photography pictures done at my Edinburgh studio. Some of them are more simple, but loved this session so much.
Jen signed up for my watch me grow program or as I call it Baby year. See more information about baby year photography here. She wanted to create nice story about her babies first year journey and these a first stage pregnancy photos. Baby year can start either with pregnancy photography or with newborn photography. She really wanted to capture her maternity stage so we started with that.

These guys are very special to me. Many moons ago I photographed their awesome wedding and since been in touch. When they announced family addition, I was over the moon , literally :) Vik got in touch about baby photos, but I so much wanted to record their bump stage too. When I first asked Vik about pregnancy photos. I loved what she said, no bare bump shots and all that floating dress stuff :) I knew that they are staying in cool place so there was no doubt that even without all posy studio stuff, images will look awesome.
Besides I always wanted to do more outdoors maternity projects and more personal things to the couples anyway. I’m doing the same with families and kids now too. Projects which would reflect them in their enviroment and with activities what they love. Down the line I think these photos will mean more to them too.

There are a lot of pregnancy photographers Edinburgh, but we all have a different styles and approaches. My todays pregnancy couple came all the way from Glasgow to get their maternity portraits done. They brought  their lovely boy as well. We had loads pregnancy ideas to cover, Gillian did her own research and I had few things I wanted to do of my own.
